We have been enjoying our long weekend with our precious new son. Both of us love just looking at his face and cooing into his eyes. Micah has been working on house projects, most of which have been plumbing issues - definetly not his favorite, but at least they are getting done. It has been nice to have life just slow down for a bit. Here are some pictures of us and Zayne from this weekend. Oh and tomorrow is my wonderful Husband's 30th birthday! He is the best Daddy and most amazing husband a girl could ask for. I love you Babe!

His Name
A lot of people have asked Micah and I how we picked the name Zayne. We were looking up baby names one evening and were looking under the Z's when we came accross it. Micah has actually always liked the name and once we read what it means we were hooked. We also decided to make it a little more original by adding the "Y" to the spelling. I told Micah he could have the final say as it was his son, so he has been Zayne for about 6 months now. We kept it a secret until he was born.
Zayne means "God's Gracious Gift." We truly feel that Zayne is a gift. This year has been difficult in so many ways and one thing we have learned is the importance of cherishing God's gifts each moment of everyday.

6 Days Old
Today Zayne is 6 days old. His Safta(Gramma) left today, which was really hard. It was so wonderful to have my mom here to help. She knew exactly what I needed and what to say at all the right times. Zayne fell in love with her and they really bonded.
So, today is my first day on my own. Zayne is a angel baby so far and we have had a really good day. He is on a schedule and is sleeping 3-4 hours at a time during the night - it is wonderful. He likes being swaddled and is showing signs of eventually liking his bath. It is still a bit tramatic for him - poor little guy.
Yesterday he had his first Dr.s check up. He stole all the nurses hearts and has gained 2oz from his birthweight. They said that is very uncommon and praised my feeding abilities :). He now weighs 5lbs 12oz. He gets cuter every day and is really starting to watch and follow your voice.
His Daddy is totally enamored and has a really hard time leaving for work each morning. We are looking forward to a long weekend and celebrating Micah's 30th Birthday. It will probably be pretty low key, but will be special to be all together with the best gift ever!

A little Miracle

Our little Zayne Adams Plimpton arrived on Thursday August 21st, 2008 at 9:44pm. I went to the hopital to get induced as the doctor's really felt he may have growth restraint/restriction. Micah and I really felt at peace about it and we wanted to be proactive rather than wait for something to go wrong. Plus I was full term, so it seemed like the right decision. On our way to the hospital we stopped at our favorite coffee shop and got breakfast to go. We prayed on the way to the hospital that it would all go smoothly and not be too long of a process. I was also silently praying that I wouldn't have to get induced and would just go into labor.
At the hospital we got checked in and after waiting to get admitted to our room, I was given a cervical relaxer. The nurse mentioned that sometimes this can start labor although it is rather rare, so not to expect much. She said she would check on me in an hour and after 4 hours they would start the Pitocin (induction medication). After an hour I had dialated to almost 3 centimeters and after about 3 hours was having contractions every 5 minutes. The nurse came back in once the 4 hours was up and said she was going to wait on the pitocin because I was progressing on my own. She said she would check back in 2 hours and see if I had progressed any more. At 7:00 I was having strong contractions every 2-3 minutes and was wondering what happened to my nurse. Finally I told Micah I needed a nurse now because I wanted the epidural. He went and got the nurse and after checking me said I was at a 4 and could have the epidural. At this point I had started shaking pretty bad and was cold. I asked if I could use the wirlpool tub first and they said I could and after that could have the epidural. I really enjoyed the wirlpool, but after about 20 minutes was really ready for the epidural. Unfortunatley, the person administering the epidural was on another floor, so I had to wait. Micah swears it was only about 40 minutes, but it seemed more like 4 hours. He finally came in and gave me the epidural, which I didn't feel at all. The nurse checked me again and to her suprise and ours, she said I was at a 10 and ready to push. The epidural hadn't even kicked in yet, but I was ready too. They got everything ready and after about 20 minutes of pushing and just as the doctor came in the room our little guy entered the world. What an amazing experience. The entire birth was more perfect than I could have imagined. Everything was relaxed and we even had Worship music playing in the background. Micah was wonderful and the nursing staff was great as well.
We are home now and I love just holding and looking at our adorable son. Everything is perfect about him and although he is small, he is 100% healthy.

The New Blog
Ok, so i've decided I have been a blogger "outsider" for long enough. I love to check and read other people's blogs and think it is a great way to keep a journal of life. Plus with our little guy due any day, I thought it might be nice for family and friends to have a place to check up on us and see pictures. This is not an excuse to not stay in touch though... :)
For my first post I am going to tell you about my day, starting with my Steak n Shake adventure. I know you never knew it was such an interesting place! So, abiding my the doctor's orders to have "a milkshake a day," (seriously, they want the baby to put on some weight this week) I stopped by Steak N Shake. I ordered a steakburger with cheese and a chocolate malt. I didn't want to go in and eat by myself so I drove around and parked and just sat in my car and ate my yummy food. I turned the car off about halfway through as it wasn't that hot and opened up one of my books I just got from the library. Probably my first mistake... I loose track of everything when reading. Anyway, I don't think I sat there for THAT long, but I did leave the lights on and when I went to start the car - nothing. So, I was smart enough to realize I had drained the battery and went into Steak N Shake hoping someone would take pity on a 9 month pregnant lady and have some jumper cables to start my car, did I meantion it was raining as well. I asked a waitress and a couple of teenage guys who had parked next to me and they were all willing to help. The waitress hunted around until she found someone with jumper cables and the guys went out in the rain and got my car running again. I told them they were my heaven sent angels and they agreed saying they it was a good thing they didn't go to Burger King like they had planned. Probably made them feel real good to help out a very pregnant women whose car wouldn't start on a rainy day. I even got a scolding from one of them about not reading in the car :).
One another note. Tomorrow I go in for my 39.5 week check up. I have a feeling they are going to encourage me to get induced. I don't really know how I feel about that. I guess they are a little concerned our little guy isn't bulking up the way he is supposed to - however, they haven't measured me since I got the milkshake order and they don't know how much I love Ice Cream. I am open though. I just want to have a healthy baby and if they think he is ready then by all means I am ready to have him. Micah is going with me to the appointment so hopefully we will be able to talk and pray it over and decided what is best.
I'll keep you posted...
